Kim Jong-un and daughter flaunt nuclear missiles at huge North Korean military parade
Pyongyang, North Korea - Leader Kim Jong-un, along with a special guest, celebrated the 75th anniversary of the founding of North Korea's armed forces with a nighttime military parade on Wednesday amid growing tensions with the US and South Korea.
Photos of the event show Kim watching the parade at Kim Il Sung Square with his young daughter from a grandstand as the spectacle kicked off with fireworks and cannon shots.
Soldiers marched alongside trucks carrying a powerful arsenal of military weaponry.
Experts, citing satellite imagery, estimated that North Korea displayed more intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) than ever before at the event, and what looked like new types of missiles as well.
ICBMs, which have a range of at least 3,417 miles, are considered the primary means of delivering nuclear weapons.
The ICBMs on display demonstrated "enormous nuclear strike power," state media reported on Thursday.
Speculation around Kim Jong-un's future
Kim made his first public appearance in 36 days on Monday, causing many to speculate he may have health issues. The presence of his daughter at the parade caused suggestions that he may be grooming her to take his place as leader.
The widely isolated country is under international sanctions over its nuclear weapons program. Their development of strategic missiles is particularly directed against the US, which Pyongyang accuses of pursuing a hostile policy.
The US and South Korea have resumed full-scale joint military exercises.
