Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney says she won't stop doing nude scenes
Los Angeles, California - Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney gave her thoughts on her sex symbol status and why she won't stop doing nude scenes.
Days after scoring two Emmy nominations for her role on the popular show Euphoria, the 24-year-old star spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the controversial series and its often graphic content.
Though her topless scenes on the HBO Max series have been criticized, Sweeney dished, "I fully trust in the filmmakers that I work with, and I'm always so excited for whatever [the show's creator] Sam writes."
The White Lotus star plays Cassie Howard in the series, the once best friend of Alexa Demie's Maddie Perez. Sweeney's character had a bigger role in Euphoria's season two, as she engaged in a love triangle with Maddie's ex, Jacob Elordi's Nate Jacobs.
"People forget that I'm playing a character, they think, 'Oh, she gets naked onscreen, she's a sex symbol.' And I can't get past that," she explained.
"I have no problems with those scenes, and I won't stop doing them, but I wish there was an easier way to have an open conversation about what we're assuming about actors in the industry."
While performing is clearly something Sweeney has dreamed of doing, she did admit that the job still has its lows.
"If I wanted to take a six month break, I don’t have income to cover that. I don’t have someone supporting me. I don’t have anyone I can turn to, to pay my bills or call for help," she explained, adding that actors don't get paid "like they used to."
"And with streamers, you no longer get residuals," she added.
Yet Sweeney has a bright future ahead of her, with the Emmys just around the corner and her exciting debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
