Welcome to Hollyboob! Six arrested for altering the iconic sign
Los Angeles, California - One of Los Angeles' most famous landmarks, the Hollywood sign in the hills, has briefly become HOLLYBOOB.
On Monday, unknown individuals climbed the steep terrain up to the large lettering and used tarpaulins to turn the letters W and D into Bs, photos show.
Six people were arrested, Commanding Officer Captain Steve Lurie announced on Twitter. They now face charges of trespassing on private property.
The group of five men and one woman was quickly spotted by officers and arrested, the Los Angeles Times reported.
According to police, the group sought to raise awareness for breast cancer through their act.
In the almost hundred-year history of the 45-foot-tall and 350-foot-long structure, the landmark has occasionally served for some amusing puns.
Pope John Paul II (†85), for example, was greeted with HOLYWOOD in 1987.
Ten years earlier, advocates of more a generous marijuana law turned HOLLYWOOD into HOLLYWEED.
Pictures of the crazy incident are circulating on Twitter
This was not the first time the sign was changed
Fun fact: the lettering originally read HOLLYWOODLAND and was erected in 1923 as an outdoor ad campaign for a suburban housing development of the same name.
In the late 1940s, the structure was refurbished, and the last four letters were removed.
