Raising a stink: South African pastor farts on the faces of the faithful
Limpopo, South Africa - South African pastor Christ Penelope has been spending a lot of time dealing with internet critics after going viral for his very unusual religious practice.
Penelope's service includes sitting on the faces of his congregants and letting one rip!
The revolting ritual is regularly carried out at the SevenFold Holy Spirit Ministries, in which its founder Penelope insists that he is demonstrating the "power of God" with his butt.
"Those who needed healing are healed afterwards and others get to manifest at that moment," he said.
There is a huge demand for the holy passing gas.
Parishioners are said to wait months to receive the rite and believe it can cure physical ailments and make them wealthy, according to the Daily Star.
But when internet users got wind of the practice, not all were believers. Photos of Penelope sitting on a devotee's face went viral across social media in South Africa and beyond.
"Blame those naive gullible followers who believe such rubbish," one Facebook user said.
A Twitter user called him a "clown" and said his practices were "satanic".
Penelope said he has gotten interview requests from around the world and that he has been wrongly portrayed online and in the media.
"That which God performed through me...was a total demonstration of God’s Power springing forth from a Pure Heart," he said in a recent response on his Facebook.
"God cannot be justified," he added.
Pastor Penelope has gained attention for his "#SPECTACLE" before
This is not the first time Pastor Penelope has gained attention for his controversial habits. He often posts photos on his social media with the text "#SPECTACLE".
He has also made news in the past for using condom lubricant to anoint churchgoers.
Yet, Penelope has continued his mission to bring himself and his worshipers closer to God by cutting the cheese on their faces.
"It started with Master Jesus when he stepped on Peter. It is the demonstration of God's power," he said.
It seems that the pastor plans to continue his ceremonial sitting despite the opinions of outsiders.
"He who sits on the throne laughs at his enemies," he added.
