Mega Millions jackpot grows to a whopping $630 million

Atlanta, Georgia - After no winning tickets were sold for Tuesday's million Mega Millions jackpot draw, the lottery said the pot will grow to at least $630 million. Someone could win real big on Friday.

Tuesday's winning numbers were 2, 31, 32, 37 and 70, the last ball was 25, according to CBS News.

But no one had all the lucky numbers, so Tuesday night's Mega Million jackpots of $555 million went unclaimed.

That Friday draw will be for a pot of at least $630 million and it's expected to grow as people scramble to buy tickets.

Jennifer Anderson, the deputy director of the Colorado Lottery, told CBS News that national lotteries like Mega Millions help individual states bring in revenue: "In many states, the most common is education, either in the form of scholarships and infrastructure in schools."

She continued, "In Colorado we have returned over $3.8 billion for outdoor open spaces, recreation. We just bought two new state parks, and that's important because Colorado population continues to grow and it is outpacing the amount of open spaces we have for people recreating."

Friday's $630-million pot is the fifth-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history. The lucky winner can accept their prize in annual payments over 30 years or take a lump sum of $359.7 million in cash.

The largest jackpot ever was won in South Carolina in 2018, worth $1.5 billion.
