The oldest known pair of socks was discovered in an ancient Greek colony. It had split toes and was made from red wool. Discovered in ancient Oxyrhynchus, a city now known as Al-Bahnasa on the Nile river in Egypt, it dates back to the 4th century BC was likely made to be worn with sandals.
