Fastest birth ever? Mother shoots baby out in less than a minute!
Basingstoke, England, UK - If only it was so easy for everyone to give birth as it was for Sophie Bugg. Her baby surprised her while she headed to the toilet and in just 27 seconds she was lucky her partner was able to catch the newborn!
The British woman was 39 weeks pregnant when she said she felt "uncomfortable" around 4 in the morning and had to go to the toilet.
Recounting what happened next, Bugg told the Daily Mail: "I was sitting on the toilet and started pushing and it didn't feel like I was about to do the big business. Then I reached between my legs and just felt her head! It was just so unexpected."
Her partner Chris, 32, rushed into the bathroom when he heard Sophie's quiet cries for help as she was in absolute shock. The two other children were woken up and told to go back to their rooms until help arrived.
"I went from the toilet to the bathroom door and was just outside the stairs, pressed once and she was out," the new mum recounted the haunting experience. Twelve minutes later, emergency services arrived.
After the umbilical cord was cut, mother and daughter were taken to hospital.
Birth in only 27 seconds could be a new record
Such a fast birth is actually nothing new for the mother of three.
In 2013, her first baby was also born at home in just 12 minutes. Paige, now eight, was still in her intact amniotic sac, which had to be broken by paramedics.
Her second child Lexie took her time, taking a full 26 minutes at the hospital.
"I was shocked when I gave birth to my first child so quickly, but I just can't believe I gave birth at home again and even faster!" the 29-year-old said.
Sophie explained that her body doesn't feel labor pains as other women would, so she has no way of knowing a birth is imminent.
"I hear other people's stories and I know several who have been in labour for 72 hours and I can't imagine that at all! I've never experienced that before - my longest labour was 26 minutes and I've had three children. I really feel sorry for the people who have to go through that!"
Palak Vyvas from Isleworth, England, is said to have had the fastest birth so far. Daughter Vedika was born in just under two minutes. In 2015, Australian Mary Gorgens also gave birth to son Brody in just two minutes. If daughter Millie's birth really did happen that quickly, Sophie Bugg would have set a new record.
