Petitions asking for Jeff Bezos not to be allowed back from space gather thousands of signatures
Medina, Washington - Jeff Bezos is shooting for the stars, but will he be allowed to re-enter the atmosphere?
If his critics had their way, the Amazon founder's upcoming trip to space would be a one-way ticket.
The billionaire plans to take off on a rocket launched by his Blue Origin space exploration company on July 20 and petitions are now floating around the internet, demanding that he stay there and never return.
Over 76,000 people have signed one petition on Change.org, titled "Do not allow Jeff Bezos to return to Earth."
The description says: "Billionaires should not exist...on earth, or in space, but should they decide the latter they should stay there."
The second appeal, which has more than 20,000 signatures, was created by Jose Ortiz, who describes Bezos as "an evil overlord hellbent on global domination."
These ominous requests follow Bezos' announcement that he will be flying to space with his brother, Mark, next month.
The two will be venturing off the edge of space in the business magnate's space start-up, Blue Origin.
They will be accompanied by an anonymous auction winner who paid an obscene $28 millions for a seat on the shuttle that will depart from Blue Origin's launch site in the Guadalupe Mountains in West Texas.
