Texas toddler shoots his baby brother in heartbreaking family tragedy
Houston, Texas - In Houston, an eight-month-old baby was shot on Friday morning. Initial investigations led police to believe it was his three-year-old brother who fired the fatal shot.
According to the Houston Chronicle, staff at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center called the police shortly before 11 AM to report an infant with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
An investigation of the apartment where the accident occurred revealed that the child had been shot in the bedroom, and it was most likely that his three-year-old brother had gotten a hold of the gun and was probably the perpetrator, officials said.
Adults were present at the time of the crime and drove the baby to the hospital, where he died. It is not known if they were the parents.
Wendy Baimbridge, deputy chief with the Houston Police Department, urged people to lock firearms away in a place where they are not accessible to anyone, and certainly not children.
"Please pray for this family, this is such a tragic event," Baimbridge continued.
Authorities announced a full investigation into the crime.
