When accidents happen, every second matters in terms of saving someone's life.

On Sunday afternoon, a single-engine plane crashed onto an active railroad track near the Whiteman Airport shortly after takeoff, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department's (LAFD) Facebook page.

Body camera footage shared by law enforcement shows several officers rushing to the scene of the crash in an effort to save the single occupant inside.

In the video, the pilot is seen bleeding profusely, while officers pull him from the wreckage and swiftly walk away from the crash.

As the officers are carrying the injured man away, a Metrolink train is seen ramming into the crashed plane at full speed, totally obliterating what was left of it.

"When we realized the train wasn't stopping, my first initial thought was, 'We gotta get him out,'" LAPD officer Damien Castro told CBS Los Angeles.

The pilot who survived the crash was then transported by paramedics to a regional trauma center, according to the LAFD's website.

LAPD officer Robert Sherock told NBC Los Angeles, "I think this guy needs to buy a lottery ticket because he pretty much cheated death twice within 10 minutes."

The identity of the pilot involved and the naure of his injuries has not yet been released.
