Tasty TV? Lickable screens are in the works
Tokyo, Japan - Have you ever wanted to tease yourself by being able to taste, but not actually eat or drink what your favorite characters in TV shows are enjoying? Well, this Japanese professor has you covered.
Meiji University professor Homei Miyashita is developing a type of screen that you can lick and taste what you see, according to Reuters.
The device is called Taste the TV, or TTTV, and combines 10 basic flavors to mimic the way specific food and drink taste. It sprays a special film that rolls out over your screen, so when you go for a lick, you get a hint of whatever menu item you are looking at.
Obviously, it is an invention for a different time, when a global pandemic isn't a pressing concern.
The Japanese professor suggested using the tasty screen as a tool for food science students, food tasters, and even for watching cooking shows at home.
"The goal is to make it possible for people to have the experience of something like eating at a restaurant on the other side of the world, even while staying at home," Miyashita said, estimating that buying the product might cost around $875.
But no matter who is using the new technology, they still wouldn't be able to actually eat the meal they are getting to taste.
So, if you are interested in testing your self-discipline, or are a sucker for punishment, then this might be the accessory for you.
But it just seems like an easy way to get your already dirty screen even dirtier.
