Radical makeover for Google Maps: Navigating airports, eco travel, and much more!
Mountain View, California - Google Maps users won't have to wait much longer! Google is bringing new key features to its Maps service, and they're something everyone can use!
Navigating without Google seems impossible these days, and while there are other navigation options like Apple's own Maps service, hardly anyone reaches for printed directions anymore.
The tech giant is constantly improving its Maps service, and now new updates have been unveiled on the Google blog.
In the future, you won't have to worry about walking in the wrong direction in large public buildings like airports or train stations. The "Live View" feature will now make it easier to look in the right direction while indoors. This feature already exists for Street View.
With the help of augmented reality in the camera view, Live View recognizes objects in the environment and gives the user tips for finding the right way.
This is especially useful in large spaces, where it's very easy to get turned around.
The search for the right escalator to a train platform, the right terminal at the airport, and even toilets or ATMs will be a lot easier.
More information about the weather and air quality in the destination area
When using Live View, arrows and on-screen hints will show you the way to your destination, but remember you'll need to have the camera activated.
The feature will be available for iOS and Android worldwide in the coming months.
For now, not every shopping center is included. The focus will initially be on the US, as well as the cities of Zurich and Tokyo. Gradually, more locations will be added.
But Google is coming up with even more innovations. In the future, there will be more information about the weather and air quality . When using Google Maps, you'll be able to see the current temperature and weather conditions in a given area, which is particularly handy if you don't want to be caught in a downpour.
This feature will also be available worldwide. Locations in the US, Australia, and India will only have air quality information displayed at first, with more countries to follow.

Soon on Google Maps: More environmentally friendly locomotion, voice control
Moving around will also be revamped, as Google Maps will soon display more options for reaching your destination in an environmentally friendly way.
The map service will automatically select the route with the lowest carbon footprint – at least as long as the arrival time is roughly comparable to the fastest route. The update will be available to all users worldwide, though an exact start date has not yet been released.
And there's great news for drivers too: the Assistant Driving Mode makes it possible to send and receive calls and texts by voice, plus much more.
And all this without having to leave the navigation screen. Expect to see changes with new updates in coming months.
