This driver's crazy drawbridge stunt could have cost him everything
Daytona Beach, Florida - An impatient driver caused a stir on the Main Street Bridge in Daytona Beach.
Speeding over opening drawbridges can be extremely dangerous, but that didn't stop one Florida driver from trying anyway.
A clip taken from a surveillance camera and now circulating on social media shows the driver putting the pedal to the metal and shattering a barrier arm before jumping the gap in the opening of the Main Street Bridge.
Police and authorities were not thrilled with the risky stunt over the Halifax River. "Something like this is absolutely against the law, the barriers are there for a reason," said Florida Safety Council spokesperson Bonnie Frank.
"You're not only risking your own life, you're risking the lives of all the other people that are on or under that bridge," Frank added.
Police said they may have already identified the impetuous driver, but further investigation is currently underway, WESH 2 News reported.
It's not the first time someone has had this dumb idea. It was only a month ago that a motorcyclist took the same leap.
