Musk tweets dates for Tesla's full self-driving beta release

Palo Alto, California - Tesla has been offering Self Driving packages as add-ons to its cars for a while. And while the price for the package continues to increase, the cars themselves haven't yet been able to fully use the tech upgrade. But Elon Musk's tweets suggest that's about to change.

Activating full self-driving has been delayed again and again by Tesla, as Elektrek reported.

In response to one customer who asked if the new version of the FSD update could be made available to people enrolled in Tesla's Early Access Program, Musk tweeted, "That is the aspiration, but we need to be cautious. Safety is always paramount at Tesla."

The same safety concerns have caused delays at other moments, such as when the company decided to transition to Tesla Vision. The switch removed the use of radar systems as used by other automakers and relies entirely on AI and cameras.

This is why Musk's latest tweets have Tesla drivers so excited. "FSD Beta 10 rolls out midnight Friday next week," he wrote Thursday.

The tech billionaire then added: "Looks promising that Beta 10.1, about 2 weeks later, will be good enough for public opt in request button."

"We should be there with Beta 10, which goes out a week from Friday (no point release this week). It will have a completely retrained NN, so will need another few weeks after that for tuning & bug fixes. Best guess is a public beta button in ~4 weeks," he continued.

Fortunately, the upgrade is a simple download, but how will drivers like it?

Elektrek reported that Musk wasn't pleased with the recent 9.2 version of FSD but that he felt more optimistic after trying 9.3 himself. Assuming all goes according to plan, 9.3 will be renamed 10 and get pushed out to those in the Early Access Program then to the public.
