Vanessa Bryant confirms Kobe's estate is ending its influential partnership with Nike
Los Angeles, California - Vanessa Bryant, the widow of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, revealed that her late husband's estate won't be renewing their business partnership with Nike.
This past Monday, Bryant (38) confirmed via social media that the Lakers legend's estate will not renew their endorsement contract with Nike.
The original deal was created as a five-year endorsement extension that went into effect once Kobe Bryant retired from the NBA in 2016.
It had expired on April 13, without much going on in terms of negotiations from either side. Nike reportedly made an offer for another extension, but it didn't seem to fit the expectations of Vanessa Bryant.
The Kobe Bryant estate does own the rights to both the "Mamba" logo and his autographed signature. It will be able to negotiate with other brands to form a new endorsement partnership in the future.
Kobe first signed an endorsement deal with Nike in 2003, just after winning his third-straight championship with the Lakers. This relationship continued through the course of his legendary career, producing 11 signature styles by Bryant's retirement.
Kobe's line also influenced fashion trends among several NBA players over the years, whether or not they were also affiliated with Nike.
Current Lakers such as Talen Horton-Tucker and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, have been wearing Kobe styles this season, with no desire to change any time soon.
