One of the most heated recruiting battles of the 2023 class came to an end on Sunday with Alabama securing a major victory.

Tony Mitchell, a five-star cornerback ranked No. 2 nationally and No. 15 overall, committed to Alabama over Auburn, Texas A&M, and Georgia.

Mitchell, who hails from Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama, reportedly drove to Tuscaloosa on Sunday to personally deliver the news to head coach Nick Saban.

Over his last three high school seasons, Mitchell had 201 tackles and forced seven interceptions, which helped his team win three straight state championship titles. He has played multiple positions in the secondary since earning playing time as a freshman, and will be a versatile athlete for coach Saban on the field.

The cornerback originally committed to Tennessee during his freshman year in high school, but later re-opened his recruitment after former head coach Jeremy Pruitt left the Volunteers. The rising star visited Alabama numerous times, and took several trips to Bryant-Denny Stadium last fall before ultimately committing to the Crimson Tide.

Mitchell's commitment now makes Alabama the home to seven five-star recruits in the 2023 class.
