Sean Miller's coaching services are no longer needed at the University of Arizona!
Tucson, Arizona - Sean Miller was let go from his job as Head Coach of the men's basketball team at the University of Arizona.
The former head coach of the Arizona Wildcats got his walking papers on Wednesday, having just one year to go on his contract with the school.
Both parties are going their separate ways, with the university stating that it would honor the remaining year in the agreement.
The current associate head coach, Jack Murphy (41), will take the top spot in the interim.
Arizona's men's program had been the subject of controversy, dating back to 2017, when a federal investigation into corruption pointed attention to Miller (52) and his coaching staff. Accusations of bribery and academic misconduct tarnished some of the Wildcats' success, even costing one of Miller's assistant coaches his job. The NCAA did levy a handful of disciplinary actions and the school itself banned the men's team from any postseason activities.
University Athletics Director Dave Heeke said in a statement, "We appreciate Sean's commitment to our basketball program and to the university,'' adding that the school needed a "fresh start."
Sean Miller had been at Arizona since 2009, appearing in the NCAA tournament seven times, and getting as far as the Elite Eight on three of those seven occasions.
