Simone Biles withdraws from floor exercise as last Olympic event hangs in the balance
Tokyo, Japan - Gymnastics superstar Simone Biles has withdrawn from another upcoming individual event at the Tokyo Olympic Games, as she continues to focus on her mental health and well-being.
There is another event in the women’s gymnastics field that will be without Simone Biles.
The 24-year-old has pulled herself out of another individual event, the floor exercise, that is scheduled to take place on Monday.
The status of her participation in the balance beam, the final event in which she’s still slated to compete, will be decided upon in the next several days.
The news of Biles’ withdrawal was yet again made public through USA Gymnastics, in a rather short statement posted on their Twitter account.
"We're all behind you, Simone," it finished.
Just recently, she chose not to participate in the individual vault and uneven bars events. Before that, she withdrew from the all-around final, an event that her teammate Sunisa Lee won gold in.
Her difficulties began to affect her event competitions when she pulled out of the all-around team final last week, as the US women went on to win the silver medal.
On Biles’ Instagram account, she had taken time last week to further explain to followers the trials and tribulations she’s been facing while trying to compete with her team in Tokyo. The Instagram stories showing video footage of her training attempts have since been deleted.
Great Britain's Jennifer Gadirova has been chosen to replace Biles in the floor exercise final.
