Simone Biles will skip two more Olympic finals with no word on remaining events
Tokyo, Japan - Simone Biles will not compete on Sunday in two of the four remaining events during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics' women’s gymnastics individual finals.
The latest news regarding the women’s gymnastics superstar broke late Saturday morning Tokyo time, as USA Gymnastics (USAG) released a statement on behalf of Biles (24) explaining her current status competing with the women’s team.
Biles will not compete in both the vault and uneven bars events that are set to take place on Sunday.
"Today, after further consultation with medical staff, Simone Biles has decided to withdraw from the event finals for vault and the uneven bars," its statement read. "She will continue to be evaluated daily to determine whether to compete in the finals for floor exercise and balance beam."
Biles hasn’t competed since attempting her first vault during the team finals this past Tuesday. After withdrawing mid-competition, she explained that her self-imposed break from the team was taken to prioritize on her mental health.
While continuing to focus on herself, she also stepped away from Thursday’s all-around final to aid in her process.
She updated followers via her Instagram story on Friday with now-deleted videos explaining where she’s been having technical trouble in her events, such as the uneven bars.
Adding to the visuals were captions, one of which read, "I don't think you realize how dangerous this is on hard/competitive surface."
Later on Saturday, she re-posted a meme which read, "I am allowed to have boundaries and not feel bad."
Even though Biles has been physically present, cheering on her teammates in her absence from competition, she’s still got two chances left to compete – with the floor final scheduled for Monday, and the beam final on Tuesday.
