Osaka (23) made quick work of her latest opponent, Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic, in their second round matchup on Monday. Osaka easily dispatched Golubic 6-3, 6-2 and now advances into the third round of the women’s draw as one of the final 16 players vying for gold.

Naomi hasn’t dropped a set so far in the women’s Olympic tennis tournament, and is sitting pretty as one of the favorites to earn a medal by the end of the summer games. With just two more match wins, she will have a real chance to potentially win gold for the host nation of Japan.

"Definitely it would mean a lot for me, but I know it's a process," Osaka said at her post-match press conference.

This match featured the same assured qualities that the 23-year-old showed in her first-round victory over Zheng Saisai. However, Osaka's game was more controlled this time around, and she committed only 11 unforced errors to Golubic’s 21. She never lost the initiative, scoring 29 game winners, more than double her opponent’s total.

Osaka wrapped things up in just 65 minutes and will face Marketa Vondrousova, a tough opponent who is currently at 42 in the WTA rankings.
