NHL: Reinhart shines as the Sabres snap the Bruins' streak with an impressive win
Buffalo, New York - The Buffalo Sabres proved they're no pushovers by shocking the Boston Bruins with a 6-4 victory at home on Friday night.
While the Sabres have had absolutely no shot of making the playoffs this year, they could still be spoilers as the Bruins are looking for prime placement in the postseason.
Sam Reinhart (25) led the way for the Sabres with his fourth career hat trick, as the Sabres snapped a ten-game stretch of winless games against the Bruins. In losing this game, Boston also let go of a four-game winning streak.
It was only Thursday when the Bruins dealt Buffalo a 5-1 pummeling, but they got a taste of their own medicine last night.
Reinhart scored his first goal in the opening period, and got two more in the third, with his last one being a much-needed insurance goal after Boston threatened with three straight nearing the game’s end. Rasmus Dahlin also grabbed a one goal and an assist for the Sabres, while Arttu Ruotsalainen and Casey Mittelstadt lit up the lamp once in Buffalo’s win.
For the Bruins, Steve Kampfer scored first, in the first period. But they couldn’t get one past Sabres goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen in the second period and only got back on track in the third, when Nick Ritchie, Kevan Miller, and Taylor Hall each scored to make a big final push. In the end, Boston came up short.
On Sunday, the Bruins head to Pittsburgh to continue their push for the playoffs, while the Sabres go to New York, looking to possibly spoil the Rangers chances for the postseason.
