NHL: Rangers goalie gets his first NHL shutout as New York dominates the Devils
Newark, New Jersey - The Rangers took control of their Tuesday night game against the Devils, handing them a 3-0 shutout on their own ice.
New York Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin (25) earned his first career NHL shutout Tuesday night, helping his team get an important win against the New Jersey Devils.
The second-year goaltender stopped 27 shots, on the way to helping the Rangers push their way to a potential playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
From the get-go, Shesterkin was on top of his game, keeping the score in favor of his team 1-0 through the first two periods. The Rangers managed to pull further ahead of the Devils after the third period got going, allowing Shesterkin to seal up the shutout victory.
Mika Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin each had a goal in the game, with defenseman Adam Fox helping out with assists on both scores. Pavel Buchnevich rounded off the scoring for New York, making it the 20,000th goal scored in Rangers' franchise history.
These two teams play the next three games against each other, with the next one back in New Jersey on Thursday night.

Elsewhere, Buffalo Sabres dropped another one, this time to the Bruins 3-2.
The Capitals are still in the mood to score plenty of goals, beating the Flyers 6-1.
The Flames pulled off the surprise win against the Maple Leafs 3-2 in overtime, making it two losses on the bounce for the North Division leaders.
And the Panthers got their win against the Stars, also with a 3-2 overtime win.
In Nashville, the Predators broke out for a 7-2 win over the Lightning.
On Wednesday, the Coyotes play an early one against the Wild and the Avs take on the Blues later on in the evening.
