NHL Playoffs: The Canadiens hold on against the Jets to take a 2-0 series lead
Winnipeg, Manitoba – The Montreal Canadiens meant business as they took another road game against the Winnipeg Jets in game two.
Carey Price (33) was yet again stellar in net for the Canadiens, as they took game two on Friday night 1-0 over the Jets.
Price stopped 30 shots, earning his eighth career shutout and first of this postseason. This gutsy performance couldn't have come at a better time for Montreal as they take a 2-0 series lead in the North Division second-round playoff.
It seems that Montreal is still riding high from their shock elimination of the Maple Leafs, as they’re still playing like a team way better than their record. Having just won their fifth-straight hockey game, you’d never know they were only three games above .500 during the regular season.
Winnipeg did pretty well for themselves in these playoffs, sweeping Edmonton in the previous round. They’ve seemed to hit a wall of sorts since the Habs came to town. They gave up five goals in their Game 1 loss, and even though their defense was much improved on Friday, they just couldn’t get one past Price.
The Jets will have to get things together in a hurry, or else they’ll be even closer to getting swept themselves.
One goal was all the Canadiens needed to win
Price only needed one goal towards his sixth win between the pipes. Tyler Toffoli answered the call for his third of the playoffs. To add insult to injury, the lone goal was scored while the Canadiens were shorthanded. Artturi Lehkonen and Shea Weber assisted with the score.
Game three is on Sunday night, from Montreal.
