NHL Playoffs: McDavid and the Oilers have their last chance wiped out by the Jets

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada - The Edmonton Oilers had their backs against the wall, trying to avoid a first-round sweep at the hands of the Winnipeg Jets, but it was all too little, too late as they lost 4-3 to Winnipeg in game four.

The Oilers had one seemingly last chance to stay alive in their North Division first-round playoff, needing just one win to avoid getting eliminated on home ice. They battled hard and managed to hang on through three overtime periods, but ultimately lost out.

Connor McDavid (24) is one of the NHL's top stars and led the league in regular-season points with 105 and assists with 72 on the year. He gave the Oilers everything he had on Monday night, yet it still wasn't enough.

McDavid scored a goal, but it was the only point he'd be credited with in the loss. It did put Edmonton on the board in the first period, but not before the Jets got on the board first thanks to one of Mark Scheifele's two goals.

The Jets would get another one by Mason Appleton to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. The second period belonged to the Oilers as they jumped ahead to a 3-2 advantage thanks to two goals by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Alex Chiasson. The Jets tied things up in the third with Scheifele's second goal of the night, which would eventually force overtime.

A lot of skating went down for the next two periods of hockey action until Kyle Connor scored the game-winner for Winnipeg, about seven minutes into the third overtime.

McDavid and the Oilers are now spectators up north, while the Jets get to rest up a little, waiting on the winner of the other North Division playoff series between the Maple Leafs and the Canadiens.
