MLB: The Yankees beat the Astros for their longest winning streak of the year

New York City, New York - The New York Yankees went up against the Houston Astros Wednesday night looking for their fourth-straight win and they managed to take the first of their three-game series in the process.

The Yankees can boast a winning record again, for the first time since early April, as they won a tough game against the Astros 7-3.

The Yankees got off to a hot start in the opening inning, after allowing one run, with three runs of their own in the bottom half, including a two-run shot by Giancarlo Stanton (31). The Astros did manage to even things up in the fourth with two runs, knotting the score at 3-3. The Yanks then jumped ahead with a four-run sixth inning, to pull away for good.

Stanton finished 4-for-5, to make it ten straight games now with at least a hit. DJ LeMahieu was also a factor with two hits, driving in a run and scoring a couple more on his own. Lucas Luetge was on the mound in the sixth for New York when they pulled ahead, to help him improve his record to 2-0.

For Houston, third baseman Alex Bregman was the one who put the Astros on the board first with his solo homer, added to an additional single for the game. Yordan Alvarez had two hits, and Yuli Gurriel had a couple of his own, including one RBI. Michael Brantley's fourth-inning home run was Houston's only other run scored.

Wednesday night will see these two teams facing off in the Bronx for the second of their three-game set.

Game one of the doubleheader between the Giants and Rockies went San Fran's way with a big 12-4 win, but Colorado got its own back with an 8-6 response. The Marlins got a huge win at home, thanks to a late-game six-run rally to beat the Diamondbacks 9-3, while the Reds were ransacked at home by the White Sox 9-0.

The Cubs knocked Clayton Kershaw out of the game in the first inning, going on to win over the Dodgers 7-1, in the first game of their doubleheader. Chicago also got the second game 4-3. Braves pitcher Huascar Ynoa got his third win on the mound, but also helped his own cause with a grand slam to beat the Nationals 6-1, while the Brewers came up short to the Phillies on the road 6-5.

The Red Sox handed the Tigers their sixth-straight loss, winning 11-7. And the Rangers made a three-run, tenth-inning comeback to defeat the Twins 6-3. The Indians, rallied late in the game to defeat the Royals 7-3.

Meanwhile, the Rays have won three in a row, winning against the Angels 8-3. The A's have also got a three-game winning streak of their own, with a 4-1 win over the Blue Jays, while the Pirates snapped a five-game skid by beating the Padres 2-1. And the Mariners held on at home to get the 5-2 win over the Orioles.

The Mets and Cardinals game was postponed, to be made up on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the Giants and Rockies look to wrap up their four-game series, while the Blue Jays square-off with the Athletics.
