MLB: Mariners easily manhandle the Red Sox as Seager just misses the cycle

Boston, Massachussetts - The Seattle Mariners won big in Boston on Saturday, taking the lead over the Red Sox in their four-game series.

The Mariners sent the Red Sox packing 8-2 with an impressive performance.

Kyle Seager (33) led the way for the Mariners with a single, a double, and a triple, just a home run shy of hitting this season’s first cycle. With those hits, he knocked in three RBIs.

Seattle got to it early, building a 5-0 lead through six innings, until Boston finally got on the board in the seventh. Pitcher Chris Flexen got his second win of the season, throwing seven innings of two-hit ball, striking out seven and only allowing one run. Ty France and Sam Haggerty also swung for three hits apiece, with Haggerty contributing a couple of runs batted in.

For the Red Sox, Rafael Devers did the most damage with two hits, for one of Boston’s two total runs. Marwin Gonzalez managed to knock in the other run scored, with just one hit in the game.

Sunday has the fourth game in this set between these two teams, as Boston tries for the series split.

In Houston, the Astros completely blasted-off with 16 runs off 18 hits, crushing the Angels 16-2. The Phillies stole one from the Rockies, ending their three-game winning streak with a 7-5 win. And the Royals edged out the Tigers 2-1.

The Twins dropped one at home to the Pirates, 6-2. And the Reds have now dropped six in a row, getting shut out by the Cardinals 2-0. In Chicago, the Brewers beat the Cubs in a close one, winning 4-3.

In New York, the Nationals played a much better game against the Mets this time winning big, 7-1. And the Yankees now have three straight against the Indians, with a narrow 2-1 victory.

The Rays avoided a three-game skid by beating the Blue Jays 5-3. The A’s haven’t lost a game in a long time now, getting their thirteenth-straight win 7-2 over the Orioles.

The White Sox edged out the win against the Rangers 2-1. The Marlins managed to get a road win over the Giants 5-3. And the Padres couldn’t get their third straight win against the Dodgers, losing a close one 5-4.

Weather conditions led to Saturday’s game between the Braves and the Diamondbacks being rescheduled for Sunday.

Today, the Yankees look for the series sweep of the Indians, while the Padres and Dodgers dig in out west.
