Ja'Kobe Walter, No. 1-ranked guard, lands on new basketball home
Waco, Texas - Ja'Kobe Walter, 5-star prospect and the No. 1-ranked shooting-guard in the nation, has announced his commitment to the Baylor Bears basketball program.
The Baylor Bears scored a major recruiting victory on Wednesday night in securing one of the top high school basketball players in the country.
Ja'Kobe Walter, the No. 1-ranked shooting-guard in the US, revealed via Twitter that he will be heading to join the defending two-time Big 12 regular-season champions.
"Waco let’s work!" he wrote.
Walter chose the Bears from a final list of schools that included Texas, Auburn, and Alabama.
The 17-year-old will look to fill an immediate need for the Bears, who currently appear to have a thin backcourt for the 2023-24 season, as guard Adam Flagler is set to graduate.

Walter will share the Baylor backcourt with fellow 2023 commit Miro Little, a 4-star international prospect. Little is a point guard who will surely be tasked with facilitating, while Walter, as shooting guard, will likely dominate the court to score.
As a junior at McKinney High School, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged 23.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. Walter announced in May that he will be attending Link Academy for his senior year alongside five-star forward Omaha Biliew and Oklahoma commit Jacolb Cole.
Baylor reached the second round of the NCAA tournament in 2022, a year after winning their first national championship title in 2021.
