Packers star Davante Adams is sidelined ahead of big game
Green Bay, Wisconsin - The Green Bay Packers, one of the top teams in the NFL, might be without one of their key players, as Covid-19 strikes again just days before one of their biggest games so far this season.
Wide receiver Davante Adams (28) has been placed on the NFL’s reserve/Covid-19 list after testing positive shortly after his team’s win on Sunday afternoon.
ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news of Adams’ status change on Monday night.
Adams was revealed to be positive shortly after Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry was the first to be separated from the team, also due to a positive test and the league-wide virus protocols.
At this time, no other players, medical personnel, or coaches have tested positive or been subjected to protocols. Yet, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told ESPN on Monday that there are "potentially some other issues with the coaching staff."
Green Bay has an important upcoming matchup against the undefeated Arizona Cardinals on Thursday.
It is believed that Adams is vaccinated, therefore he would need to be asymptomatic and need two negative PCR tests 24 hours apart to be allowed into the game action.
The same goes for Barry, who – like all NFL coaches – was mandated to be vaccinated prior to the start of the current regular season. The same mandate is not required of players.
Should Adams indeed miss Green Bay’s next game, fellow receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling might be available, coming off of a hamstring injury that’s kept him out all of October.
The Packers (6-1) open the NFL's Week Eight against the Cardinals (7-0) on Thursday night.
