NFL: The Saints march over the Seahawks at the last minute in a Monday night thriller
Seattle, Washington - The New Orleans Saints capped off the last game of the NFL’s seventh week this season with a big win on the road over the Seattle Seahawks.
The Saints beat the Seahawks 13-10 for their second-straight win, improving their overall record to 4-2.
Seattle, on the other hand, now find themselves in the middle of a three-game skid while they still try to get acclimated to the absence of their star quarterback Russell Wilson (32).
It was a game where mistakes were going to make the difference between victory and defeat.
The halftime score was only 10-7, in favor of the Saints, before the game’s outcome came down to the final minutes of regulation.
With minutes to go, two separate penalties by the Seahawks defense each gave New Orleans first downs, extending the Saints’ chance to march down the field for the game’s winning points.
Thanks to Seattle’s late blunders, a 33-yard field goal broke the fourth-quarter tie with under two minutes to go as the Saints claimed victory.
The player spotlight
The Saints star running back, Alvin Kamara, played a big part in the team’s success in the game, as his efforts on the ground and in receiving made some NFL history in the process.
He became the fastest player in league history to reach 3,000 career rushing yards and 3,000 career receiving yards, in just 66 career games.
Standing out on the stat sheet, Kamara finished the night with 20 carries for 51 yards, but also led the Saints with 10 catches for 128 yards, and his team’s only touchdown.
At 26, the only way is up for New Orleans' superstar.
The big picture
After Monday night, the Seahawks’ third-straight loss comes while Wilson has been out from injury.
They are also staring at a 0-3 record at home in front of their fans, known to be the loudest crowd in the league.
It’s definitely clear by now that they need their best player back as soon as possible if they want any chance to keep up with the Rams and Cardinals, who are fighting for control of their division.
Next Sunday, the Saints (4-2) host the Buccaneers (6-1) while the Seahawks (2-5) host the Jaguars (1-5).
