NFL: The Ravens keep flying through preseason after pouncing on the Panthers
Charlotte, North Carolina - The Baltimore Ravens are look better and better this preseason after getting a strong road win over the Carolina Panthers on Saturday night.
The Ravens beat the Panthers 20-3 for their second win in a row so far this preseason.
However, Saturday’s win had more significance than just an exhibition win. This victory is the 19th straight NFL preseason win, which unofficially ties the league record. The last team to do it was the Green Bay Packers, who won as many from 1959 to 1962.
Tyler Huntley (23) took all the snaps for the Ravens while their number-one guy Lamar Jackson was kept on the sidelines, to keep him fresh for the upcoming regular season. Huntley played a decent game by football standards, completing 24-of-34 pass attempts for 187 yards, despite throwing an interception.
The game was pretty tight in the first half as both teams went into the half tied at three points apiece. Justin Tucker booted through three points for Baltimore, while Joey Slye was responsible for Carolina’s three.
Baltimore’s ground game took care of most of the scoring in the second half thanks to touchdown runs by both Nate McCrary and Ty'Son Williams. Jake Verity added another field goal to pad the Ravens’ lead.
Baltimore’s notoriously stingy defense held Carolina to 18 total yards in the second half. Through the entire game, they also held three Carolina quarterbacks to 156 yards for no touchdowns.
Next week, the Panthers host the Steelers on August 27, while the Ravens will take on the Washington Football Team on August 28.
