NFL: LA charges back at home to beat Pittsburgh in dramatic finale

Inglewood, California - The Los Angeles Chargers found themselves in a Sunday night shootout with the Pittsburgh Steelers, needing some late-game magic to come away with the win.

The Chargers defeated the Steelers 41-37 to get back into the win column while keeping Pittsburgh from their first win since Week Nine of the NFL season.

The Chargers had control of the game through most of the matchup, holding a lead over the Steelers ever since the closing minutes of the first quarter.

Pittsburgh then got ten unanswered points to start the fourth quarter to pull within seven, but an LA touchdown kept the Steelers at bay.

Or so the Chargers thought.

The Steelers stunned them by scoring 17 straight points in under 90 seconds of game time to take their first lead since midway through the first quarter.

But the Chargers stormed right back with a touchdown pass to quickly snatch the lead back, allowing their defense to shut down Pittsburgh’s last chance for the win.

Chargers fifth-year running back Austin Ekeler (26) was on his game in a big way to beat the Steelers at home.

He was a dual-threat on offense in this game and couldn’t be contained by Pittsburgh’s traditionally stingy defense.

Ekeler scored four touchdowns against the Steelers, the most he’s ever scored in his career.

He finished an amazing game with 11 carries for 50 yards, and two touchdowns, along with six catches for 65 yards, and two more touchdowns through the air.

The big picture

The Steelers just put up 37 points and still somehow contrived to lose this game. On any other day, Pittsburgh could have expected a win.

This kind of point haul isn't usually customary of a team that only gained 300 yards of total offense. The offense numbers and performance are definitely something to build on as they sit third in the AFC North, behind the Ravens and Bengals respectively, also on the outside of the playoff race but not out of contention.

The problem is, with seven games to go in the regular season, they have almost no margin for error left going forward.

Next Sunday, the Chargers (6-4) will travel to Denver to play against the Broncos (5-5) while the Steelers (5-4-1) will be on the road as well to take on the Bengals (6-4).
