NFL: Dolphins head coach Flores torches Deshaun Watson trade rumors
Miami, Florida - Brian Flores, the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, doesn’t think there’s a place on his team for beleaguered Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, who has a cloud of abuse allegations hanging his head.
Rumors had been rumbling on Monday regarding Miami being a potential trade destination for Deshaun Watson (25), but Dolphins head coach Brian Flores put them to rest with a straightforward statement.
In his response to the rumors, Flores was quoted by the Associated Press as saying, "We have a high standard for the people we have in the organization. We want people with high character throughout the building."
A blunt response from Flores, but he was careful not to go into specifics about Watson’s legal situation involving the 22 individual women who are suing him for various acts of sexual misconduct.
The Dolphins front office hasn’t confirmed nor denied ever engaging in trade talks with the Texans at this point.
But it wouldn’t make much sense if they were looking to acquire Watson, since they have second-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on the roster. If anything, they seem pretty committed to at least starting their upcoming regular season with him throwing the football, considering he’s in the second of a four-year, $30 million deal.
The Dolphins open the NFL regular season on the road, taking on the Patriots in New England on September 12.
