Legendary Patriots receiver Julian Edelman calls it quits after 12 years in the NFL!
New England Patriots star wide receiver Julian Edelman (34) decided to bring his 12-year career to an end with a tweeted video simply titled, "Foxboro Forever."
Explaining the choice to step away from the game, Edelman said, "It was a hard decision, but the right decision for me and my family."
During the past season, Edelman was plagued by a knee injury that finally seemed to take its toll on him, leading him to take this decision.
At 34, Edelman retires after spending his entire career as a Patriot. While in New England, he helped his team win three Super Bowls. He was also named MVP of Super Bowl LIII, the most recent Super Bowl win for the Patriots.
The Kent State graduate was originally drafted as a quarterback in the seventh round, 232nd overall, in the 2009 NFL draft. His natural athletic abilities paved the way for him to change positions, eventually becoming one of Tom Brady's primary targets during his fifth season in 2013.
He finishes second all-time for Patriots franchise receptions (620) and is fourth in career receiving yards, with 6,822 receiving yards
However, it was during the playoffs that Edelman really shined. He was a consistent offensive producer year after year, as the Patriots were a consistent presence in the postseason. Edelman ranks second in catches with 118, and 1,442 receiving yards, while also leading his team in receiving yards in each of his three Super Bowl victories with New England.
Julian Edelman will be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2026.
