Justin Fields slips and slides into a huge victory for the Chicago Bears
Chicago, Illinois - Football Twitter is buzzing over Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, who made a big impression in his team's upset win over the San Francisco 49ers in their NFL opener.
On a wet and muddy Sunday in Chicago, two rookie quarterbacks struggled for much of the afternoon.
But in the end, Bears quarterback Justin Fields did enough to edge the contest with Trey Lance and his San Francisco 49ers for a 19-10 win.
It took Fields almost three full quarters to connect with his offense, but once he did, the second-year quarterback hit a big play that buzzed social media.
Facing a familiar third-and-10, the 23-year-old scrambled for 10 yards before launching a deep pass to receiver Dante Pettis, who hauled in the reception and sprinted for Chicago's first touchdown of the game and a perfect moment to spread on Twitter.
And speaking of viral potential, the closing moments of the matchup brought another memorable sight. The Bears used the heavy rain to turn the lakefront sod into a kiddie pool, as Fields broke the team huddle during the last play, took a knee to run out the clock, and promptly led his offense on a "slip-n-slide" victory celebration.
Needless to say, there's already a perfect name for a celebration that already feels iconic: the Field Slide.
