Hillman, a member of two Super Bowl teams including the Broncos' Super Bowl 50 squad, has died of cancer. His family confirmed the tragic news via Instagram on Thursday. He was 31.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother & father, Ronnie K Hillman Jr.," his family wrote.

"Ronnie quietly and peacefully transitioned today in the company of his family and close friends."

In a separate post, Hillman's family revealed that the Broncos' legend was recently diagnosed with Renal Medullary Carcinoma, a rare but highly aggressive form of cancer that primarily affects young African Americans with sickle cell trait (SCT).

Hillman was a third-round pick by the Broncos in the 2012 NFL Draft at the age of 20, and was one of the youngest players ever selected in recent times.

A product of San Diego State football, the star running back tallied eye-popping numbers. He secured 3,243 yards and 36 touchdowns in just two seasons, foreshadowing the illustrious career he would have in the big league.

While he was barely old enough to legally drink when he took his first snap in the league, his youth didn’t provide any limitations in the NFL world.

Hillman’s most memorable season came in 2015, when the Broncos won Super Bowl 50, posting a team-high of 863 rushing yards, 24 catches out of the backfield, and seven touchdowns.
