Damar Hamlin released from hospital a week after cardiac arrest
Cincinnati, Ohio - The good news keeps coming in for Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, one week after he suffered a cardiac arrest during an NFL game.
Damar and his team at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center have announced that the 24-year-old has been discharged from the ICU and has returned to Buffalo amid his recovery.
Further updates shared by the Bills on social media revealed that the athlete walked a lap around the hospital for the first time on Friday as he continues to make remarkable progress in his recovery.
Hamlin was active on social media while the Bills faced off against the New England Patriots on Sunday, sending love to his teammates in a series of live tweets.
"When the Bills ran the opening kickoff back he was jumping up and down," Hamlin's physician, Dr. Timothy Pritts, said.
The NFL star also shared an update on Twitter on Monday to show his appreciation for the dedicated medical staff that has been treating him as he settles in at a Buffalo hospital for continued care.
"Grateful for the awesome care I received at UCMC," he wrote. "Happy to be back in Buffalo. The docs and nurses at Buffalo General have already made me feel at home."
Buffalo Bills honor Damar Hamlin on the field
The NFL honored Hamlin throughout this weekend's games.
The Bills made an emotional entrance, with quarterback Josh Allen carrying a flag that read "Pray for Damar" during the team's run onto the field.
The emotions continued to run high as the Bills scored a rare kickoff return for a touchdown at the start of the game, with players jumping into the stands after the exhilarating play.
Across the league, players wore shirts with "Love for Damar" written across the front during practice, as his number "3" was highlighted in paint on the field in every NFL stadium nationwide.
Colts safety Rodney Thomas, who played football with Damar in high school, paid tribute to his friend by bringing the ball to the 30-yard line, which had "3" outlined for Hamlin, after an interception.
The Buffalo Bills are set to face the Miami Dolphins in their first playoff game next Sunday.
