NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders sets intense tone as UC Boulder's new head coach
Boulder, Colorado - The college football rumors are true! Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders is heading to the University of Colorado Boulder, and he's set to bring major changes with him.
It's official! The Colorado Buffaloes college football team has hired NFL legend Deion Sanders as the next head coach of the Buffaloes.
Over the past month, Sanders became one of the biggest coaching names in college football's coaching carousel that included several fires and some legendary hires.
In his three seasons at Jackson State, Sanders coached the Tigers into the national spotlight, something that no historically Black college or university (HBCU) football program has ever seen before.
For the first time in program history, Jackson State put together an undefeated season, finishing 12-0.
The Tigers capped off their regular season by winning the SWAC conference title last Saturday with a blowout 43-24 win over the Southern Jaguars.
The Tigers will have one last hurrah with Sanders at the helm as they take on the North Carolina Central Eagles in the Celebration Bowl on December 17.
Sanders plans to transform UC Boulder's current team culture
While Sanders still has to coach Jackson State in the Celebration Bowl later this month, he used this past weekend as an opportunity to introduce himself to the University of Colorado Boulder football team.
Needless to say, it was quite the introduction.
When Sanders landed in Boulder upon a private jet, he wasted no time in letting his new team know that he's bringing baggage with him that includes a slew of new talent in his first-ever team meeting at UC Boulder.
In fact, Sanders encouraged anyone inclined to enter the NCAA's transfer portal to do so while introducing his son, Shedeur Sanders, as the new starting quarterback. He also offered up a stark warning to his new team: "Those of you that we don't run off, we're going to try to make you quit."
He continued, "I want ones that don't want to quit, that want to be here, who want to work, who want to win."
With the transfer portal remaining open until January 18, players across the country now want the chance to play for Sanders. With NIL money flowing into the program, talented CFB athletes are following suit.
It's been reported that around 200 recruits and portal transfers are hoping to play for the Pro Football Hall of Famer at UC Boulder.
In terms of the coaching changes, Sanders has reassured his Colorado team that the new staff will be one of the best and most elite group they've witnessed.
"It’s going to be one of the best staffs you’ve ever seen assembled," Coach Prime said. "They’re coming."
