Ex-Northwestern football players drop bombshell lawsuit against university
Chicago, Illinois - Following head coach Pat Fitzgerald's firing from Northwestern football amid serious hazing allegations on the team, former Wildcats players are now suing the university.
The issues in Northwestern's football program are far from over!
Eight Northwestern players are now filing a lawsuit against the school itself.
"@AttorneyCrump and co-counsel have been retained by 8 former student-athletes who were subjected to hazing, including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse at Northwestern University," the law firm of noted civil rights attoney Ben Crump confirmed on Monday.
The lawsuit comes after Northwestern's student newspaper uncovered alarming accusations about severe hazing within the Northwestern Football program, which has shocked the college football world.
In addition to alleged hazing and abuse, a number of former Wildcats players have also come forward and revealed the program apparently had a "culture of enabling racism" under former coach Fitzgerald.
Northwestern defensive coordinator David Braun, who was recently hired in January, has been named interim head coach for the 2023-2024 season. However, many fans believe the program needs to do a clean sweep and hire all new program staff.
College football fans react to Northwestern's latest news in the football programs scandal
Northwestern will have a lot of questions to answer to over the alarming accusations against the football program.
Across the internet, many have already demanded answers.
"Why was a culture of racist beliefs allowed to go on for YEARS in Northwestern’s football program?" attorney Crump tweeted.
Colleges sport fans have taken to the internet, all seemingly agreeing in their reaction to arguably the biggest college football scandal in recent memory.
"NU needs an entirely new football staff (every employee, at every level), plus a whole new team," one fan tweeted.
"Oh damn....it's about to go down. If any of this stuff is true, Northwestern deserves all the fire they get," another added.
"Wow. This is gonna get worse for Northwestern before it gets better. #B1G," one fan wrote.
"Northwestern is boned," another commented.
Amid the turmoil the football program is currently facing, Northwestern is set to open the 2023-2024 college football season against Rutgers on September 3 at noon ET.
