Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders becomes fashion Hall of Famer
Glendale, Arizona - Known for his prolific career on the gridiron, Colorado Buffaloes football head coach Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders received yet another major honor on Saturday evening for his achievements as a sports icon – this time in the world of fashion!
When Coach Prime was drafted to the Atlanta Falcons in 1989, dripped in gold and sporting a "dry but it looked wet" Jheri curl, he instantly became a style influencer.
From that moment on, Sanders continuously brought swag, flavor, and a whole lot of style to the NFL and college football coaching.
Joined by sports icons Allen Iverson and Derek Jeter, the Buffaloes head coach made history as the first honoree inducted into the GQ Sports Style Hall of Fame for his decades-long contributions to sports and fashion.
Upon receiving the honor, Sanders also got a navy custom GQ Hall of Fame blazer engraved "Style Hall of Fame."
The classic slim fit jacket features a white four-line design on the left arm sleeve, complemented with gold buttons and a red, white, and blue pinstripe inside lining.
In addition to the ceremony, Sanders was also praised with a special GQ cover publication which celebrates world-famous athletes and their legendary styles.
"Never had no stylist," Sanders reflected in his GQ cover issue as the first-ever Style Hall of Famer, noting that he was always pushing the envelope when it came to the dress code.
"But I never went against what was right," he added. "I would always walk right up to the line because it was making a statement as well."
Deion Sanders is ready to lead the Buffaloes to new heights on the football field
After becoming the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes late last year, Sanders has since changed the culture of the team, establishing arguably the best football staff the program has ever assembled.
Led by his son quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Jackson State transfer Travis Hunter, and a strong incoming freshman class, the Buffaloes have been buzzing the attention of college football fans far and wide for what is projected to be one of the biggest program turnarounds in college football history.
Colorado will open the 2023-24 college football season against national runner-ups TCU on September 2 on the road.
