College football: Top quarterbacks land new home teams with the transfer portal
West Lafayette, Indiana - The Purdue Boilmakers have reportedly found their new quarterback – along with some more big college football passers finding new homes.
Only a few hours after former four-star recruit and freshman quarterback Brady Allen announced his intention to transfer out of Purdue football on Monday, the Boilermakers have apparently landed ex-Texas passer Hudson Card, according to sources.
Card spent three seasons with the Longhorns after being a four-star recruit of the 2020 class.
This past season, Card started in only three games in place of starter Quinn Ewers and posted strong stats with 741 passing yards, six touchdowns, and one interception - completing nearly 70% of his pass attempts.
Despite his impressive showings, however, Card continued to play backup for the Longhorns throughout his three seasons with Texas – behind Sam Ehlinger as a true freshman, Casey Thompson as a redshirt freshman, and Quinn Ewers this season.
Wanting more playing time on the field, Card entered the transfer portal on the first available day this season, and is said to be set to join Purdue under the new leadership of new head coach Ryan Walters.
On Monday, Walters tweeted a video with the caption, "Christmas ain’t over yet, just got some great news … #LifeIsGood #boilerup," potentially alluding to the big news of Card becoming the first player to join his team via the transfer portal.
Card is expected to become the starting quarterback for the Boilermakers after losing starting quarterback Aidan O'Connell to the NFL Draft.
Ex-Clemson passer DJ Uiagalelei has found a new team in Oregon State
Former Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei gave the Pac-12 a big Christmas present when he announced his commitment to Oregon State on Christmas Eve.
Uiagalelei entered the transfer portal two weeks ago after an unsteady two seasons as Clemson’s starting passer.
Now, he will become one of the headlining passers of the Pac-12, which also includes superstars Bo Nix of Oregon, Michael Penix of Washington, Shedeur Sanders of Colorado, Dante Moore of USC, and reigning Heisman winner Caleb Williams of USC.
Next season, Oregon State will five starters returning to its offensive line and will have one of the top running backs in the country in Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year Damien Martinez.
With former Beavers' starting quarterback Chance Nolan gone to the transfer portal, Uiagalelei will have to beat out the team's only other quarterback, freshman Ben Gulbranson, for the starter position at Oregon State next year.
Last week, Uiagalelei's younger brother Matayo committed to Oregon State's rival Oregon as one of the hottest incoming freshman recruits to sign early, as part of college football's National Signing Day.
