Caleb Williams kisses second Heisman Trophy goodbye amid uncertain future

Los Angeles, California - It looks like Ohio State's Archie Griffin will remain the only college football player ever to win back-to-back Heisman Trophy awards.

Hit with his second consecutive defeat this past weekend, Caleb Williams has undoubtedly fallen from grace in this year's campaign!

After an impressive 2022 season that earned him the Heisman Trophy, the Trojan quarterback now finds himself living a nightmare.

Williams' last two appearances on the field have been marred by two consecutive losses against Notre Dame and Utah, both featuring woeful performances that are bound to haunt him.

In the face of the Fighting Irish, he only managed to gain 199 yards, a single touchdown, and an alarming trio of interceptions.

Meanwhile, the Utes extended their dominance over Williams and the Trojans for the third consecutive time on a fateful Saturday night, restricting him to a mere 256 passing yards and a solitary rushing touchdown as his lone saving grace.

Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse, the college football world utterly ripped Williams to shreds over his poor post-game behavior.

Following the loss, the Trojan leader didn't shake hands with his opponents or speak with the media following the game - an act that would cost a major fine in the NFL.

What will Caleb Williams' future in college football look like?

Williams' dreams of securing a second Heisman Trophy and guiding USC to the playoffs have been dashed, prompting widespread curiosity about his future plans.

Fox Sports analyst Emmanuel Acho suggested the idea of Williams sitting out the remainder of the season to protect his draft stock, which didn't go well with many fans and experts.

"I find that to be outrageous," college football expert Paul Finebaum said during his Monday appearance on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning.

"I don't know the people in Caleb Williams' inner circle, but they are possibly going to go down as the biggest bunch of fools that have ever advised a college football player. Starting out with wanting a piece of the franchise and now this."

Finebaum added: "You're not that important. I don't mean to dismiss the fact that he may be the No. 1 pick, but you're no longer the centerpiece of the game. Be a college player and try to lead your team to something good, and quit acting like you're more than you are."

If Williams were to take Acho's advice, he would likely harm his draft prospects rather than bolster them. Departing college football without a passing touchdown in his final game would leave a bitter aftertaste.

In his best interest, Williams should consider extending his playing career to demonstrate that he can perform at a higher level than his most recent showings.
