NBA: The Suns welcome back one of their best in a torching of the Hornets

Phoenix, Arizona - The Phoenix Suns continue to be the NBA’s best with another monster win, this time over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday night.

The Suns blew out the Hornets 137-106 for their third win in a row and fifth out of the last six games.

Charlotte was handed their second-straight loss, their third out of the last four games on their end.

Phoenix welcomed back their best scorer, Devin Booker (26), who had missed the last seven games while nursing a hamstring injury.

Luckily for him, he didn’t have to work very hard, as the Suns started off the game with a very strong defensive front in the first quarter that only allowed 15 points from Charlotte against Phoenix’s 37.

The Hornets finally settled in during the second quarter, during which they scored twice as much as they did in the first, but they still trailed the Suns by 22 at halftime.

The action was closer between the teams in the second half, but Phoenix's lead was just too big for Charlotte to ever overcome.

From the first bucket that fell for the Suns, Phoenix simply cruised on the way to victory with nine players scoring in double-figures.

Off the bench again to lead the Suns was veteran center JaVale McGee, who was also the leading man this past Thursday against the Wizards. The 33-year-old put on a real scoring clinic in a very short period of time.

He didn’t need to shoot much while he was on the floor, but he did have the hot hand, making all but one of his 10 shot attempts.

In just 16 minutes on the court, McGee shot 9-for-10 from the field for a team-high 19 points and seven rebounds.

The Suns have been going neck-and-neck with the Warriors, and even took a page out of their playbook on Sunday.

Against the Hornets, Phoenix made almost half of their three-point attempts, 20-for-41 from behind the arc.

When a team is that good from long-range, there aren't many opponents who can live with it.

It’s not likely that the Suns can keep that kind of shooting up game after game, but as long as they have the mentality for high scoring, their roster full of weapons will keep them just as good as Golden State all season long.

On Tuesday night, the Suns will travel to take on the Lakers while on Monday, the Hornets will also be on the road to face the Jazz.
