NBA: The Suns blaze past the Warriors to tie their franchise record!

Phoenix, Arizona - There is a new top team in the NBA and it’s the Phoenix Suns after they outlasted the Golden State Warriors at home on Tuesday night.

The Suns beat the Warriors 104-96, extending their league-best 16-game winning streak to 17 games, also snapping Golden State’s run of seven wins in a row.

Phoenix has now tied the franchise record for consecutive victories.

Even though Golden State stormed out for 35 points in the first quarter, their four-point lead going into the second got wiped out after the Suns defense held the Warriors to only 19 points before halftime.

With Phoenix leading by just two to start the second half, both teams played a tight game during the third quarter as the Suns still led by two going into the fourth.

It was there where the Suns held Golden State to another quarter of scoring below 20 points, which was the difference-maker as Phoenix stayed in control until the end.

After the Suns’ leading scorer Devin Booker (25) was taken out of the game shortly before halftime with a hamstring injury, the next man up answered the call.

Phoenix’s 23-year-old center Deandre Ayton stood tall in the paint and led his team to the big win over the Warriors.

He brought home his ninth double-double of the season in a great performance.

Ayton finished the game with 11-for-19 shooting, a team-high 24 points, and a team-high 11 rebounds.

So, the Suns are the best team in the league – at least for now. The fact that they managed to beat the much-vaunted Warriors despite missing their best man for over half the game makes it all the more impressive.

It definitely helped that Warriors guard Steph Curry was way off the mark on Tuesday night, totaling up only 12 points off of 4-for-21 shooting in the game. Those are numbers that we're not used to seeing from him this season, and it explains why the Warriors failed to hit the 100-point mark for the first time this season.

Meanwhile, the Suns look unstoppable at the moment and have a chance to write genuine history on Thursday.

That's when they welcome the Pistons, before the Warriors get a quick shot at revenge on Friday.
