NBA Playoffs: Philly is on the brink of sweeping the Wizards out of the playoffs
Washington DC - The Philadelphia 76ers took game three from the Washington Wizards and took one more step to a series sweep on Saturday night.
The Sixers continue to have their way in the Eastern Conference playoffs, handing the Wizards another blowout loss 132-103. Philly needs just one more win to complete a first-round sweep, and move on to the second round.
Joel Embiid (27) was once again at the helm as the Sixers cruised past Washington with no intentions of seeing the Wizards back at home for another game in this series.
Despite obviously being the best player on the floor, the Wizards didn't double-team Embiid as they had done in the first two games of the series, and Philly's big man took advantage. Embiid went off on Washington and dropped 36 points in just three quarters. By then, the Sixers were so confident of the win that they even gave him the whole fourth quarter off.
And the rest of Philly's starting five came together with Embiid to put up 100 points as a unit, whereas the Wizards just couldn't keep up the East's number one seed.
Russell Westbrook was still a machine for Washington scoring another triple-double with 26 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists. But even though he should be commended for producing like that on an ankle he sprained towards the end of game two, it just wasn't enough to keep his team from getting absolutely decimated.
Westbrook found himself out of the game just after the start of the fourth quarter, not just because he couldn't save the game, but more so to nurse his aching ankle.
From start to finish, the whole game belonged to the Sixers
Philly's not the East's number one seed for nothing, and it definitely showed on Saturday night. The Sixers shot 58.6% overall in the game, including just over half of their 3-point attempts made. There wasn't a quarter in the game where Washington outscored them.
The Sixers lead by as many as 31 points, to add insult to injury.
Unless the Wizards have some kind of magic up their sleeves, the Sixers might already be looking ahead to the next round even though they still have to play the fourth game to clinch the series.
Game four is on Monday night, once again from Washington DC.
