Four-star forward Corey Chest becomes LSU basketball's first commit
Baton Rouge, Louisiana - Louisiana's top player and power forward Corey Chest set a new standard as the first commit of the LSU Tigers' 2023 recruiting class.
On Tuesday, LSU's basketball program made some roarin' noise with its latest commit.
6-foot-8 forward Corey Chest committed to the program, and became head coach Matt McMahon's first commit of the 2023 class since he took over the reins in March.
The four-star athlete picked LSU over offers from reigning national champions Kansas and schools such as Houston and Ole Miss.
A New Orleans native, Chest spent his last three high school seasons in Louisiana. However, he recently announced he'd be transferring to basketball powerhouse Link Academy in Missouri for his senior year.
Ranked the best player in Louisiana and the No. 12 power forward in the country, Chest will surely be a key player in helping McMahon rebuild a culture of success in the Tigers basketball program.
Chest is one of the more versatile and aggressive defensive players on the court. With his size, he can lock down scoring wings and defend easily in the post. On offense, he will look to build his jump shot to compliment his easy under-the-rim scoring ability.
As LSU's first commit of the class, Chest's pledge sets the recruiting standard that the Tigers can now build upon.
