Austin FC will have full capacity crowd for its first home game at new Q2 Stadium
Austin, Texas – Austin FC and city officials have announced that Austin's Q2 stadium will operate at full capacity for their upcoming home opener and all games thereafter.
The home opener won't just be the first time Major League Soccer team Austin FC has played a game in the new stadium, it'll be packed with fans who have been itching to step foot in the newly built $260 million stadium.
On Monday morning, Austin Public Health and Austin FC announced the attendance guidelines that will allow Q2 Stadium to operate at 100% capacity for the remainder of the 2021 MLS season.
According to a press release from Austin FC and Austin Public Health, the US Women's National Team will also play its first game against Nigeria in front of a nearly full crowd at Q2 Stadium on June 16 – three days prior to Austin FC's first home game on June 19.
"Today’s announcement is representative of a remarkable community-wide commitment to public health, which will now allow supporters the opportunity to safely participate in a series of historic Q2 Stadium events across the month of June and beyond," said Andy Loughnan, President of Austin FC.
The move to allow full capacity seating came one week after Austin Public Health officials moved the city and Travis County into Stage 2 of its risk-based guidelines, which allows for larger outdoor gatherings and drops all Covid-19 restrictions for those who are fully vaccinated.
Austin's mayor Steve Adler shared his support for the return of large events, noting his enthusiasm about the city's first professional team.
"I’m so excited that Austin FC will play in front of a full capacity crowd for its historic first-ever MLS match," Adler said in the press release.
He continued, "We will soon celebrate major league sports, a new stadium, and how well our community is doing with vaccinations all at the same time."
Austin FC fans have been preparing for this moment for nearly two years, and they surely won't let it go to waste.
