Yates chose Washington over a group of nine finalists including Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Gonzaga, Houston, LSU, Stanford, and Texas.

The 6-foot-4 guard cemented himself as the best of the Lone Star State's combo guards and second-best overall player.

At Beaumont United High School, Yates helped lead the Timberwolves to a combined 100-6 record in his three high school seasons so far.

Last year, he led the Timberwolves to their second consecutive UIL Class 5A state championship title for a combined 67-3 record during their championship-winning season campaigns.

As a junior, the standout athlete averaged 19.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.8 steals, and 2.0 assists to garner First Team All-East Texas and Class 5A All-State Texas Boys Basketball honors.

Following in the footsteps of former Timberwolves and current Houston Cougars forward Terrance Arceneaux, Yates becomes the second player from Beaumont United to commit to a Division 1 program.

Yates' pledge makes him the first commit in the Washington Huskies' 2023 men's basketball recruiting class and the program's highest-rated commit since Isaiah Stewart (No. 3) and Jaden McDaniels (No. 8) in 2019.
