Texas Tech secures versatile in-state player Anthony White
Lubbock, Texas - Texas Tech football snapped up one of the top recruits in the state as versatile player Anthony White announced his commitment to the program during a ceremony on Wednesday at his high school.
White, who also plays high school basketball and track and field, chose Texas Tech over offers from Texas, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, and Utah State.
A multi-position player, the 6-foot athlete earned snaps in both offense and defense as a junior last season.
On defense, the linebacker tallied 61 tackles, eight stops for loss, five interceptions including a pick-six, and two fumble recoveries.
As a wide receiver on offense, White caught 44 passes for 794 yards and 12 touchdowns scores while rushing for two more scores.
The Texas native earned Texas District 4-3A-II first-team all-district selections at both receiver and linebacker – a rare feat for a high school player.
"[Head coach Joey McGuire] brought a lot of impact on me, on wanting me while I was healthy and injured so that really locked it in after he told me he wanted me still," White told KLB News.
Last year, White led Abernathy high school football to a 12-2 season record and a Texas 3A D-II regional final appearance. The Raiders will look to use White's leadership and versatile position field play to their advantage after graduating prominent players following the season.
With his letter of intent officially sealed, White will live out his dream of playing college football alongside four-star Isaiah Crawford, as well as four-star defensive backs Jordan Sanford and Brenden Jordan, who headline the Raiders 2023 recruiting class.
