Texas Longhorns get beefed up with four-star pledge Derion Gullette
Teague, Texas - Four-star edge Derion Gullette committed to the Texas Longhorns on Friday, joining an elite haul of defensive players.
The University of Texas added another major pick-up for their football defense on Friday.
Derion Gullette, the nation's No. 18 high school edge and overall 27th ranked player, committed to the Longhorns via Twitter over final offers from The Ohio State and Texas A&M.
In his last season, Gullette collected 125 tackles, two interceptions, three sacks, and three forced fumbles.
The four-star player turned 62 receptions into 1,430 yards and 14 touchdowns in Texas' 2A classification.
Gullette, the 6-foot-2 defender, joins a defensive class that is seemingly transforming into a powerhouse, with safety Derek Williams and cornerback Malik Muhammad headlining the group.
Currently a two-sport athlete, Gullette earned high school honors in track and field, running the anchor leg on two medal-winning relay teams for Marlin High School in the 4x100 and 4x200.
Gullette's pledge makes him the 21st commit and 13th four-star player of the 2023 Texas recruiting class, joining the nation's No. 1 player, Arch Manning.
