Texas boasts huge commitment from linebacker Anthony Hill Jr.!

Austin, Texas - The Texas Longhorns landed a massive commitment from the nation's best linebacker as five-star Anthony Hill Jr. made his big decision earlier than expected.

The Texas native originally planned to announce his pick on December 21, but chose to pull the trigger when Steve Sarkisian and his staff were in-home to visit Hill on Thursday.

The move comes after he decommitted from Texas A&M earlier this fall amid the Aggies' rough season.

With Hill now on board, Texas now has a third No. 1 commit to add to quarterback Arch Manning and running back Cedric Baxter Jr.

The 6-foot-2 power athlete first surged onto the national recruiting scene in 2020 as a sophomore.

That season, Hill was named a first-team MaxPreps All-American and the District 5-5A-I Defensive Newcomer of the Year, after while leading his team (alongside current Longhorn J'Tavion Sanders) to an undefeated season a state championship.

During his junior season campaign, Hill was even more impressive, finishing with 131 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and eight sacks. He also boasted three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, three fumble recovers, two interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns.

Following this stellar showing, Hill was named the Texas District 5-5A-I Co-MVP, a first-team MaxPreps Junior All-American, and a Class 5A first-team all-state selection by the Texas Sportswriters Association.

Hill is projected to become one of the main defensive men in Texas and the Big 12, with high chances of being a top pick in an NFL Draft. His commitment bumps Texas’ 2023 recruiting class to No. 3 in the country
